Privacy policy
This policy explains what Aera collects, how we protect it, and the choices you have. We wrote it in plain language so you can actually read it. Aera offers general wellness information. It does not diagnose, treat, or replace medical care.

Who we are
Aera is a privacy-first women’s wellness companion. We help you track your cycle, mood, and symptoms on your terms.
What we collect
You choose what to log. Typical entries include:
- Period dates, flow, symptoms, and mood
- Cycle settings such as length and regularity
- Reminders and app preferences
- Account email if you sign in for cloud sync
Health logs are encrypted on your device. Optional cloud backups are encrypted before they leave the phone. We store ciphertext and cannot read your logs.
If you sign in, we also store your account email and display name, and metadata for any premium purchase (store, product ID, and a hash of the receipt). We never store raw payment details.
Crash and performance
Production builds may send crash reports and performance metrics to Google Firebase (Crashlytics and Performance). That can include app version, device model, OS, stack traces, a device identifier, and a flavor label. It does not include period dates, symptoms, mood, journal text, emails, or passwords. Google processes this data as our service provider.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your health data
- We do not show ads based on your logs
- We do not collect your location
- Partners see only what you put in a share pack — nothing by default
- Journal entries are never shared in v1
How your data is protected
Encryption keys stay on your device. TLS protects data in transit. You can lock the app with biometrics or a PIN.
Partner sharing
Sharing with a partner is always opt-in. You pick the fields, send an invite, and can revoke access anytime from Partner settings.
Cloud sync
Cloud sync is optional. Local-only mode keeps everything on this device. If you sign in, encrypted backups help you restore on a new phone — still unreadable by us.
Premium
Privacy is never locked behind Premium. Export, deletion, local-only use, and partner controls stay available without a paid plan.
Your choices
From Privacy Center you can export an encrypted copy, delete your account and all data, turn off cloud sync or partner sharing, and see what we store. See deleting your account and data.
Optional research program
You can choose to help women’s health research by sharing anonymous summaries — never raw logs. This is separate from partner sharing and off by default.
- You pick what categories to share: cycle patterns, mood counts, or symptoms
- Only aggregated, binned summaries leave your device — not journal entries
- We use a random contributor ID — not your account email — in research datasets
- You can leave the program anytime from Privacy Center
- Past anonymized aggregates may remain in research datasets after you leave
- We do not sell research data or use it for advertising
Age
Aera is for people 16 and older. If you are under 16, please do not use the app.
Changes
We may update this policy as the app grows. If we make meaningful changes, we will show you a summary in the app before they take effect.
Contact us
Use the contact form for privacy questions that are not about deleting data from inside the app. Export and deletion stay available in Aera with no email needed.
